The difference between Ploom and e-cigarettes
Ploom belongs to the heated tobacco category as a device that heats tobacco without burning it. In this technology, real tobacco sticks are used, and the tobacco is heated at a specific temperature to release taste and aroma. Since there is no burning process, no smoke or ash is produced during use, and the process continues in a cleaner and more controlled way.
E-cigarette type products work with a different principle. These devices do not use tobacco; instead, a special liquid is vaporized. The taste experience is formed through the aromas in that liquid, and the usage process is based on vapor production. For this reason, e-cigarettes (vape) products and heated tobacco devices are not considered the same category.
The fact that Ploom and e-cigarette type products are built on different technologies clearly shows itself in the taste, smell, and overall experience felt during use.
Main difference in terms of working technology
Ploom is a heated tobacco device. During use, a real tobacco stick inside the device heats the tobacco at 320 degrees, without reaching the burning temperature. In this process, the tobacco does not burn; only aroma and taste are released through heat. Since burning does not happen, no smoke or ash is produced, and the usage process is more stable and controlled.
E-cigarettes work with a different technology. These products do not use tobacco. Instead, a special liquid (liquid) is vaporized, and the taste is formed through the aromas in that liquid. In other words, e-cigarettes are completely vapor and aroma based.
This technological difference is the main reason why Ploom and e-cigarettes are not accepted as the same product.
Differences felt in the taste experience
Another distinguish feature of heated tobacco products is that they preserve the taste of tobacco. Since real tobacco sticks are used, the taste profile feels more balanced and natural. Because there is no burning, the taste does not become harsh and does not mix together.
In e-cigarettes, the idea of taste is completely different. Here, the main role belongs to aromas. Fruit, dessert, and various synthetic flavors are in the front.
Ease of use and daily approach
The tobacco stick is inserted, the device automatically works at the optimal temperature, and the process continues in the same rhythm. It does not require liquid filling, coil replacement, or additional technical intervention. In e-cigarettes, the user may face more technical details. Liquid choice, filling process, vapor density, and other parameters must be constantly monitored by the user.
Although Ploom and e-cigarettes are often thought to be the same, they are not products of the same category. Ploom is a heated tobacco device and focuses on preserving real tobacco taste. E-cigarettes are tobacco-free, liquid-based vape products. In terms of working principle, technology, taste experience, ease of use, and design, Ploom offers a different approach.
The New Ban Effective from 1 April and heated tobacco products
It is known that from April 1, 2026, in Azerbaijan, a new ban comes into force regarding the import, export, production, storage, wholesale and retail sale, and use of electronic cigarettes and their components. This amendment applies to the category of electronic cigarettes that vaporize liquid.
However, heated tobacco devices belong to a different product category, and this ban does not apply to them. At first glance, heated tobacco devices and electronic cigarettes may look similar. Both are based on heating technology, work with a battery, produce vapor during use, and do not create ash. Because of these common features, some users may think these two products are the same.
However, Ploom and e-cigarettes are different, and the main difference is the substance that is heated.
In heated tobacco devices, real tobacco sticks are used, and the tobacco is heated at around 320°C without reaching the burning stage. In electronic cigarettes, there is no tobacco; a special e-liquid is vaporized at around 100°C. So one heats tobacco, the other heats liquid.
This difference also shows itself in the taste and smell factor. In heated tobacco devices, the vapor formed is based on tobacco-enriched aroma. In e-cigarettes, the taste mainly comes from flavorings and additives and is not tobacco-based.
In terms of technology, the substance used, and heat level, these two products are not in the same category. Because of these technological and structural differences, the new ban applies to e-liquid based electronic cigarettes, but it does not apply to heated tobacco products,such as Ploom.
